Variability in Reporting LVEF with 3D Echocardiography: Insights from Real-World Practice

Three-dimensional echocardiography (3DE) has emerged as a superior modality for evaluating left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), offering enhanced spatial resolution and volumetric accuracy compared to traditional two-dimensional techniques. Despite its clinical advantages, the adoption and consistency of LVEF reporting using 3DE vary significantly in real-world settings. This paper explores the multifactorial reasons behind the variability in LVEF measurements via 3DE, using data collected from various clinical institutions. Through statistical evaluation of real-world patient imaging data and clinician-reported outcomes, we analyze technical, procedural, and human factors contributing to inconsistencies in LVEF quantification. The findings provide a comprehensive overview of challenges such as operator dependency, equipment heterogeneity, and workflow integration issues. Moreover, this study emphasizes the importance of training, standardization, and technological integration in ensuring reliable LVEF assessment via 3DE, ultimately contributing to improved cardiovascular diagnostics and patient care.
